in the yellow square, there's a piece of metal you need to push out with a flathead. put it back in after you place the short shifter in.

i got mines from ebay. And to let you know, this isnt for the 3rd gen. its actually for a 4th gen but from comparing it, it looks identical. This shifter is probably 2 inch shorter then the stock one. im putting this in a 94 camry. heres a pic of it.

1: Push out the slid pin circled in post 2.
2: Pop off, carefully, the thin washer like thing also seen in that photo to get the other side off.

How did you guys get the thin retaining washer back on? I went to go put on the new retaining washers back on and one was too big and I couldn't get the other one back on.

I just installed mine and I couldn't get it back on.

Got it on. I wedged a large 2' pipe between the plastic shifter base and the pin to keep the place. I put a 10mm socket over the lock washer and pounded it in place. It's on.
