4th Generation The bulbs are NOT #74!!! '97 XLE

I took my center console apart and managed to get to the bulbs in the cig lighter, ashtray, and AC knobs. The bulbs behind the AC knobs are NOT #74! In fact, none of the bulbs are #74!

I have searched the forum. I have checked out the DIY's. Everyone else has #74 bulbs, but I don't. The bulbs in the AC are bigger. Almost like #24, but a little smaller length wise.

As for the bulbs in the cig lighter and ashtray, I admit that they do look like #74's. I went and bought some from Checkers (or whatever they're called now), and I could not put them in for the life of me. No matter how much I tried, I couldn't get the damn bulbs to go in. The ends seemed too big. And the burnt bulb in the cig lighter, I couldn't even get it out. I'm going to have to break it and pull it out piece by piece or something.

Has anyone else run into similar problems? I don't know what to do. All automotive lighting replacement guides list 194 or 74 and those are not working for me. Please tell me I won't have to resort to ordering the bulbs from the dealer!

I would suggest go to a dealer [or even just call up their parts department] and just inquire with the issue and see what they say. Maybe they have a different bulb size listed. Take your VIN with you as it can sometimes help. Doesn't mean you necessarily have to buy bulbs from them, but it can at least get you answers.

I picked up a small bulb that was supposed to be soldered on for the cigarette lighter at Radio Shack, and I made it work. I just wrapped it around the existing metal prongs put the green cap over it and works.

It was a #7219 Microlamp.

I have a feeling you could make that work.
