infamous GAS DOOR

i know its not just me my 91 celica 94 camry my buddies camry all of them have this problem the gas door does not pop open ive made due by holding the release handle with my seat belt is there a fix for this? or should i just give up on it

Can't you just bend the metal spring that pushes the door outwards a little?

Spring is broken or missing. Dealer has part for about $5, Some stores also have it. 1 minute do it yourself job.

what kind if spring like compresson or coil? i have never seen either working doors

The spring is a bent metal spring with plactic clip. I replaced mine last summer for about $6.

FWIW, I've attached a photo showing the spring. The inside of the door is some sort of plastic that gets brittle after a while (you might be able to notice that the hinges on mine are mostly held on with epoxy these days -- the original plastic kind of gave up the ghost)...I assume your spring broke off sometime in the past.

If all else fails, find some spare aluminum, and JB Weld it on.
