whats high miles on a 1997 camry v6?

i just bought one with 148000 miles runs and sounds great. does anyone have more miles on a v6 model? also it has a trans and engine oil leak, anyone know where to look first to fix?

Depends on what you paid, but that mileage is not excessive. I've got a four, so someone else will have to answer about the leaks, but they wouldn't scare me too much either. Good luck!

If those are all or mostly highway miles, 150K miles is nothin' . If it's mostly town miles, it's not horrible, but the engine and drivetrain probably need some TLC.

First step on any oil leak hunt is to grab one or more cans of degreaser and get the motor and tranny good and clean -- unless the oil is just pouring out, it's really hard to track down the source on a dirty engine.

Look at the valve cover gaskets. They seem to be a common source of oil leaks on these engines.

225,000+ on my wife's '98 V6.
It has a slight oil leak from the rear valve cover. Otherwise it's been good to us (knocks on wood)
