4th Generation Motor oil on sparkplug

Couple weeks ago i've change my brother's 98 camry v6 sparkplug and the first sparkplug that i took out had oil on it. The oil was in the electrode side of the sparkplug. So does this mean that the engine has a blown front head gasket or is it just the sparkplug seal. The rest of the 5 sparkplug were dry. Keep in mind that the sparkplug i took out with oil on it was the very first right hand side as you look in front of the engine bay.

Looks like a bad spark plug tube seal to me. As you removed the plug the oil ran down the threads. With a blown head gasket the electrode would be black with burnt carbonated oil I think.

Yo what's up, further if you change your spark plug tube seal which should come with most valve cover gaskets and you are still seeing the pooling of oil in the tube, you should take the tube out of the car clean the threads and apply black rtv to it. that should solve your problem

Thanks you guys for all the responses!

So how do i change the sparkplug tube seal, do i have to remove the valve cover to do it. Can i buy the sparkplug tube seal by itself, and anybody have a picture of a sparkplug tube seal. I just wanted to see what it looks like.

Yes you have to remove the valve cover to replace them. When you pull the cover off and look inside the cover, you will see the seals there. Atleast that's how it is on the 5s-fe, but I imagine it's the same on the 1mz-fe.

The picture below is of 4 5s-fe tube seals, but the 1mz-fe seals look similar.

Spark Plug tube seals....

Yeah, it looks more like the tube seal problem than cylinder problem. If the seal doesn't solve it the bottom of the tube may be leaking.

A Fel Pro set looks like and it's cheap for about $26+shipping:

You'll need a few dabs of RTV at the joints of the semi-circular plugs on the cylinder head. Such as:

Yeah, I wasn't sure about the camry setup but on the mazda the tube seals and valve cover gasket are one piece. Since you have to take off the valve covers to get to the tube seals you might as well get some new valve cover gaskets to replace at the same time. Although, I was able to stop a valve cover gasket leak on another car by simply tightening the valve cover screws.

The valve cover bolts on the V6 have stops. And they won't compress the gaskets any more after reaching the stop. Add more washers if needed.

you don't have to take the valve cover off all you have to do is take off the nuts, that sit on top, there are 4 of then around the spark plug tube themselves, you'll need like a 30mm hex to remove them but once you have them off the spark plug tube seal sits right underneath the nut. take the seal out, drop new one in and put the nut back on and tighten down!!!! no need to take out the valve cover if thats all you;re doing, but if u are replacing the valve cover gasket too, then yes you'll need to take the cover off.
