CD Player gets no power

I had a Sony CD player in for about a month, and the removable face plate broke. It would not snap back in. So I glued it back on.
It worked and held and still played.

Yesterday afternoon, I went to change the CD and get an error code - err04. Something about the lens being scratched. Whatever.
Also, the radio would not work either. No station would work. The antenna was hooked up properly and always worked before.

Today, I got a panasonic deck from a friend. When I was unwiring the sony, there was a quick flash. I finished wiring the panasonic. Turned on the car. Nothing. I thought the new deck was dead, so I wired the old sony since that would still turn on, but wouldn't play music.

Nothing from that either.

I replaced one 15 amp fuse I found to be blown, I believe it was for the power outlet.

Neither CD player works. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be?

I checked the radio, cigarette lighter, dashboard, instrument panel and guage fuses and they're all fine.

I can't stand not having music to drive to.

This is a long shot, but it worked for the stock CD player in my Highlander and it just worked this past weekend with the replacement CD player in my 98 Camry - get a cleaner disk and run the thing through it. We didn't use the CD player in the Highlander for a year and all it needed was a cleaning.

Before you do that, I should ask, does it include a radio and does it work?

Can't run a cleaner or anything because nothing gets power. It doesn't even light up when you plug it in.

No matter if it's a new stereo or the old one, doesn't work.

Check and see if there is an inline fuse on the power wire. The factory wire shouldn't have one but if an aftermarket wire was installed its possible. If you have access to a voltmeter, start by turning the key on and measure the voltage. Get the black probe of the meter on a solid ground and check for power on the yellow and red wires. One should have 12 volts without the key turned on (yellow) and the other should have 12 volts after you turn the key to ACC (red). If you are getting power in those wires, check the fuse in the back of each head unit. Most aftrmarket heads have a fuse on them, but not all. If you aren't getting power, check voltage at the "radio" and "cigarette" fuses. If no power there, check the fuses and fusible links in the relay-fuse panel under the hood. Good luck.

Check the radio fuse. There should be power there at the connection.

1. Take the "new" CD player toy your battery or another good 12v source and mate the negative with negative, twist the positive and remote wires together and touch them to positive, if it turns on the problem is at the harnes and back, if not, then it's the radio.

2. Make sure there is power coming out of the harness. With a test light ground it out to your key in the ignition, set the ACC setting and check the OE harness. Top left is power and bottle left is the remote turn on. Check it from there if not... see step 3.

3. Check all fuses related to radio to make sure they are not blown. If they are and keep blowing there is a short somewhere.

I was checking every fuse in my car with a test light today and found it under the hood.

Radio no-1.

Works great now.
