Engine won't start after pulling out the spark wire from distributor while running

My 93 Camry was running fine except for rough condition at the idle position. The engin was very easy to start before anything that I repaired. I pull out no. 2 spark wire from the distributor while the engine was running. The engine stalled at about 5 sec. and after that I couldn't start the engine anymore(cranking but no fire). So, I pull out the spark wire and checked any spark with engine cranking. No sparks comming out of the wire. What was cause the distributor died right away and how should I troubleshoot the problem. Thank you in advance.

I try to troubleshoot the engine rough problem, so I want to make sure the distributor doesn't cause that problem. Now I got two problems. Thanks.

Ugh, that wasn't the best way to troubleshoot ya know?

Replace plugs, wires, dist cap & rotor, seafoam tb & brake booster, and go from there.

Check the coil inside the distributor. You will need a digital volt/ohmeter and the specs from any manual to do this. Running the engine with a spark plug wire off a plug may be just enough to kill a weak coil.

Mike
That would probably be his newly acquired "second problem"

Sure it is. I replaced new coil and it started right away, but I still had the first problem. The engine vibrates and rpm not stable at the idle position. Thanks.

remove and clean your intake to prevent the idle RPM not stable.

Clean your throttle body on the car, paying particular attention to spraying the cleaner liberally down in to the square or diamond shaped port at the base of the throttle body. That port leads to the idle air control valve, where your problem may exist. Then go on to clean up the rest of the throttle body. Here's a link to a DIY thread with great pictures that explain the process.:

Mike

I cleaned the throttle body, but the problem still exists. Error code 71 just came up today. Thanks Mike.
