Doesn't the entire rear shelf has to be lifted up a bit for access? I think there were DIYs somewhere.

Yes, the entire rear deck cover has to come off. I did a rear strut R&R thread (link below) which shows how it comes out. Basically, you have to remove much of the rear seat before you can pull the cover.

Yes the whole rear deck has to be taken out, but to take the rear deck out the rear seat needs to be removed, and then the two strips of seat-back by each door. Its a pita.

speaker Installation

Here is a site that I've used before to replace my speakers.

- Take out bottom part of rear seat (held in by a couple of clips.
- Use socket set to remove one bolt either side of rear seat next to seat belts... slide the side piece up and off.
- Fold rear seats down..
- Undo a couple of screws that hold the deck on the car... normally located on the deck behind the rear seats when folded down.
- If you have a grandpa rear light on parcel shelf, unclip that (screwdriver or sumfin), disconnect...
- Pull the deck off :P

Should have full access to the rear speakers.
