1) My airconditioner button started flashing and the coolness just stopped (only fan was blowing). I pressed the button to shut it off. Pressed it on again after about 30 seconds, and the airconditioner was working perfectly fine again. What was that???
2) What's that tiny button on the automatic shifter lever? Not talking about the ECT button at the base of the shifter... I'm talking about the tiny button on the shifter itself? Only noticed it now...
that button you're talking about is the O/D button or overdrive, it turns overdrive on or off. Go to this link for more info on that.
As for the AC, thats the first ive heard about the button blinking, maybe you have a loose wire or something, if it happens again its either ur car telling u you're out of compressor gas (unlikely) or a loose wire
Welcome to the forum btw, check out the FAQ section next time theres alot of info there that you might find interesting.
There is an improved a/c MG CLUTCH relay to fix the flashing a/c button. It is in the underhood fuse box and the new part ends with 028, the bad one ends with 022. Very common problem and should be around $60.00 for part. Let me backpeddle a bit, this is for 2002-2004 Camry's
The flashing A/C light means that something was sensed that had a significant chance of cratering your compressor (pressures too high or too low, probably some other things...don't have the FSM in front of me), so the magnetic clutch is disengaged to shut down the compressor. May've just been a glitch. Pretty difficult to troubleshoot unless it starts happening on a more regular basis.
The blinking light is the same problem I'm having with my 96. It started with just once like you, then every few days, then to where we are now with all the time

Does it work fine again, right after you switch it on and off?
Have you consulted with any garage/dealer about this?
I just had the same thing happen to my 96 Camry. I was sitting at idle on a cool morning keeping the defroster on. I noticed it getting real muggy in the car then seen the a/c button light flashing. I turned off a/c waited 30 seconds then back on and everything worked fine. I have noticed here lately that I am getting bubbles in the liquid line sight glass. I am charging up the system some this weekend.

It may also be as simple as a loose a/c belt slipping on the compressor. That will shut down the compressor. Check the belt tension.

I believe this is what happens to my car when I drive over deep puddles in heavy rains. Seems like the belt gets wet, button flashes, and A/C dies... and sometimes it can take up to a couple of minutes for the A/C to kick back on.

It will probably kick right back on if you shut the a/c off, then shut the car off. Then restart it and then turn the a/c back on.
yup, same thing happens to my 96 when i go through a large puddle or its raining heavily. i just turn the a/c button off for about a minute and then back on. everything works perfectly after that.

I can't say for sure that I have tried that exact process of turning off the A/C then shutting the car off. But I know that I have shut the car off before and it did not come back on immediately. It still took a few moments. I specifically recall an incident this year in New York City where the rains were causing flash floods in some areas, and it took forever for the A/C to come back on (several minutes after driving through deep water). Almost to the point of really pissing me off.
