gen4 1mz injen intake needs catch can?

believe it or not, "Catch can" turned up zero hits on this site!

my problem is that with my injen intake, the breather hose from the front valve cover (1mzfe w/ trd supercharger) is feeding into the intake pipe right in front of the MAF sensor. this gets a mist of oil all over the MAF. when i took out the MAF last week, it was literally DRIPPING with oil! i cleaned it off with QD electrical contact cleaner and now my EGTs are almost 100 degrees cooler when cruising on the highway (who knew?), and the misfiring i was getting under boost above 3500 has now moved up to above 4000-4300. i probably need to replace the MAF after it soaked in oil for who knows how long.... but it also begs the question - why did injen do it this way? the stock intake's connection to front breather hose is AFTER the MAF, so oil can't get on it.

i can't weld aluminum so i can't move the connector (or i would - that'd be easiest), so the next option is a catch can. has anyone ever made one? anything special to know? i know it has to be sealed, and must be designed to be free-flowing, yet direct the oil solid/liquid down into the can while the other side of the can allows suction to take actual vapors into the intake. i don't want to bother making it auto-drain back into the engine, since that's way more work than i care to do, and i can't imagine that THAT much oil would be coming down the breather anyway - i'm losing less than 1/4 of a quart between 4000 mile oil changes, and i imagine most of that is probably lost in basically normal use. i could try making the can serviceable, kinda like an oil filter - unscrew it, drain it and reattach... again, not sure if it's worth it. could put a drain plug in it too.

comments/suggestions? has anyone else ever had oil get on their MAF?

in my experinace...the SC causes more oil to be thrown into the intake. no one ive ever seen has done anything to cure this and it hasnt caused much of an issue other then more regular cleaning of the intake. but a catch can couldnt hurt, and would be pretty easy to rig up. however, dripping with oil...ive never experianced that or herd of it being a common problem.

I haven't been SC'd in over 6 years (sold during SC3 days to pay for my school renaissance), but I have noticed that there is indeed a significant amount of blow-by oil inside my intake pipe right around the bung with the hose coming from the PCV valve. I have a 15mm fitting GReddy catch can to plumb in, it's just that I can't seem to find a permanent place to mount it without it rubbing against the intake or something else.

i looked at ebay... i think even those $10 ones ought to do what i need. I also thought about it some today and i might be able to add a small right-angle adapter inside the intake to the interior of the connection from the VC... that would at least direct the stuff coming in back towards the TB rather than in front of the MAF sensor.

I've heard of oil getting into the intake before, but i myself had never seen a MAF literally dripping with oil before either. And I was a mechanic at toyota for 7 years!

Just buy a pneumatic line filter at home depot they are very cheap, like 20 bucks. It's what I have done and I catch a lot of oil with that set-up.

a catch can will help for sure

as for REAL blow-by....try losing almost 2 liters of oil through blow-by over a 800km trip...that's what happened to my old motor. pretty much forced me to replace it over my xmas break.
