3rd Generation Knocks When I accelerate

Yesterday my car cut off and after I crank it back up it had a knock in the motor when I accelerate. Anybody know what that could be? My pops thinks I need a new engine. Also, I been have long term problem with it jerking or like its missing when I drive. I just change out my valve cover gasket, spark plug wires and spark plug, and fuel filter.

My first guess would be fuel starvation related? How's your fuel pump? May also want to try a bottle of Chevron Techron Fuel Sytem Cleaner (stronger than the fuel injector cleaner).

Then you also might want to check EGR operation. It needs to be working to help reduce combustion temperature. But check the fuel related issues (lean driveability issues) first.

I can't be 100% sure, but when the "knock" matches the revs it sounds like catastrophic failure.

Either rebuild it if you have the knowledge and tools, have someone else rebuild it or get a replacement motor.

Here you will find a list of local yards with engines in stock. Most offer a decent warranty.

Good Luck!
