any information or ideas as to what this might be would be really helpful and greatly appreciated:
I proudly own and drive an automatic 1995 Camry I-4 DX sedan and when I start accelerating from a complete stop I hear a small clunking/knocking noise coming from a place where I can't determine right as the car starts to move. I believe the noise to be mechanical in nature and not something else. This noise only happens once, meaning it doesn't repeat over and over again during acceleration but occurs reliably every time I start going from stop. (0% brake/ >15% throttle)
Now if I am at a stop light and the light goes green, I sometimes let go of the brakes and let the idle start to move the car and then very slowly accelerate when the car has started rolling. Doing this avoids the initial clunking sound. (0% brake/ 5-10% throttle)
I also noticed that when I hold down the brakes and let the engine hit about 1200rpm and then release the brakes completely, the car starts moving from stop like it did back in day one when my dad bought the Camry home from the dealership. (100% brake, 10% throttle).... let me know if this is bad for the car i.e. the clutch
If not for this persistent knocking sound, the car runs like if it were a champion. I love the car a lot because I have many memories of it in our family abut I can't help but think that maybe I am hurting it every time I drive it?
