USA Fuel filler hose hard and stuck

I am so close!!!

I'm removing my fuel tank to fix a leak on top and cannot figure out how to remove the fuel filler hose (between the filler pipe and tank). It's very old and stiff and I'm afraid of damaging it with a screwdriver or the like.

Any words of wisdom here? Can this be replaced? Would I just use regular fuel hose from the auto parts store or is this a specific piece?

I think I'd rather replace both the main fuel hose and the evap line as they are 17 yrs old.

sljorge - Did you get your fuel filler hose removed? Mine is old and stiff and tough to get off. How did you end up doing it?

I took a razor knife and made slices from the end to about and inch or two going back (enough to cover the overlap of the metal it slips over). After several cuts I just wiggled it loose.

I might have to do that too. I was hoping to at least re-use the main filler hose. Did you replace both hoses? With OEM or aftermarket? How much were they?

Replaced it - it came with the filler tube.

It was OEM and I don't recall the price exactly, but I think the whole thing cost me $110 (not cheap).

The large rubber hose is 60 bones at the stealership! That is on top of the 230 that they want for the filler neck. I just ordered an after market filler neck from Parts Source for $108 CDN.

I am going to keep working the hose tonight, to see if I can get the old hoses loose. A co-worker suggested jamming a slot screw driver in between the hose and the pipe and squirting WD40 into the opening. If anyone else has figured out a good way to do this, I am very interested.

EDIT: Got the large hose off at the gas tank by twisting it. Easier to grasp at the gas tank. Got the small vent hose off at the filler pipe end by jamming a slot screwdriver in between the hose and the tube in several locations to break it free.
