3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Ok here's the thread that I've promised to JCamry94. This can be applied to pretty much any car with single exhaust set up and compatible rear bumper, not just gen 3 or 4. For me and those socal homey like Dan with daily hassles from cops, this might be the end of it.
Total cost for the welding job was $90 with parts provided (cutout, muffler). The guy refused to weld the cable into the cutout handle bar because it's too thin, so I had to hock up the cable on my own.
For the result, Instead of a "quiet" and "loud", I'm having a "loud" and "not so loud". I might have to adjust the cable again for better desired result. Now I kindda wish that I got the electric cutout instead, which cost lileraly 10x as much. Atleast I already have the dual set up in place, so If I decide to upgrade the cutout later on, it will only cost nickel for direct cut and swap.
thats cuz you live in the OC, not the 626 or 909.
people around here get hassled for every little thing
Really? '_' <- told me the same about that general area.
Newport is def a richer area and the cops are more alert and aggressive, but all through LA and OC everywhere else I have never been told to fix it or anything.
Just a matter of time before you happen to be driving infront of a "panda", speaking of which I was followed by a black and white dog charger this morning. When did they start using this thing in socal ?
Camricer, you have certainly earned your name for this one. Cut outs on a Camry, old school cable pull at that...whatever floats your boat dude.
I'm going to install a set of electric cut outs in the 3" dual exhaust on my 65 Mustang. Open & close with the push of a button. I'll post up some vids when it's done.

JCamry94, you're lucky you haven't had these encounters
Yeah I guess so

I've driven in front of them, by them, behind them multiple times, and even gotten stopped for something non-related, but the only place any cop has asked about my exhaust was in Newport Beach.
Chargers have been in use for about a month or so now. i saw it on a Supra forum a few weeks back, they're giving them test runs to see if the officers like them I guess

I'm not sure why? I have yet to see a cop pull any sort of muscle car over for a loud exhaust, EVER. It's always the imports that get the bad rap on that end.
My cousin and uncle back east run open headers on their challenger and cuda on occassion and they get looks but no ticket.

With the domestic car companies are in bad shape, I guess we'll see more of those RT, GT, SRT-8 on black and white. I would apply for the job just to drive em
