3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hello guys. My left front speaker was cracking, so I decided to replace all front speakers as well as tweeters. My car has separate tweeters and woofers, so I assumed they are component. I must say that I have factory head unit.
Right now I replaced driver's side door speakers. When I was doing that I just unsolder old ones and solder new ones using old wires.
So I ran into some troubles. The speakers are too quiet, but now I know that it is because factory head unit is 2 ohm and speakers 4 ohm. Is there any way to correct it without replacing the head unit?
Also I still hear some noise from the speakers, kinda the same cracking. What can cause this?

what is causing this is your headunit. the factory head unit dosent sound too great. i know you dont really want one but your best off spending 2-300 on an alpine and you wont have to worry about any of that.

You by no means need to spend THAT much money on a Headunit for good sound quality. If you were still using the factory headunit, then you would be MORE than happy with a $130 headunit from Pioneer. I got mine from Newegg for $130 and it has IPOD and USB hookups, as well as 2 amp outputs.

That's true. You could probably find one at a junkyard near you. I know that at my local yards, you can buy the part, and if it doesnt fix your problem you can take it back...which in your case, would take you all of a few minutes of unhooking the old one and hooking up the new one and testing.

5 Lug Corolla WHAT?
Where is the amp located? Inside the head unit or else where?
If replacing the head unit which ones are good?
Criteria that head unit must meet:
1. Good sound quality.
2. Ability to connect mp3 player.
3. Easily operated.
4. Readable display, with green or blue color, not red or orange (I don't like red). Not too bright at night, or with ability to adjust brightness. No useless things moving on display.
5. Ability to control sound level, like base, treble etc.

if your spending 130 on speakers you might as well go ahead and get a better headunit. honestly the cheapo pinoneer headunits dont sound as good as something just a little more expensive would.

'Honestly', if he was still using the stock headunit and speakers, and wasnt even worried about upgrading the headunit or speakers until he started having problems, then the 'cheap' (as you call it) pioneer headunits will sound GREAT compared to stock.
Anywho...he'll do what he wants.
