3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Okay, my 2001 Camry 4cyl, auto, does something wierd, but I've only had it a month, so not sure if it's a Camry thing or a transmission issue:
The best way to describe it is, the car will not hold itself on a slight incline, say, you're stopped at a stop sign, or a stop light, and it is a slight hill, every other car I had would hold itself in place or even creep a bit forward when the brake was released, the camry however promptly goes backwards.
Is this normal? If you need more info let me know.

Ah, thanks, it makes more sense now. No, the car does nothing like that, except maybe hesitate slightly when I get on the gas hard from say a stoplight.

"Slight" incline is very subjective. Most cars I drive tend to roll back a bit as I move my foot from the brake pedal to the gas pedal if I'm on an incline.
I wouldn't worry about it.

well mine started like that but it ran fine for about 8 months with no problems but now im switching out the trany. when we switched the oil and filter it just dint want to go.. could be a totally different problem but my main point is that you should be fine unless the problem gets worse like if its taking longer and longer to respond when you hit the gas.
If it starts to roll back slowly, tap the throttle a wee bit... the engine then starts to hold for a few secs, then starts to roll back from there on...
