3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I just did an engine swap in a 95 I4. Battery was diconnected before any work was performed, and reconnected after it was ready to try to start.
After the swap the air bag light was on. I read some threads and tried the procedure to reset the light.
After turn the key on, ground TC for 1 sec, AB for 1 sec, TC for one sec, AB for one sec, then ground TC the ABS light flashes a "22" code. The Cruise light also flashes something - didn't notice what.
After re-reading some stuff - two things stood out that I will try.
1. I'll try a direct ground to the battery, I was using the lifting bracket on the cylinder head.
2. I'll try and leave the last TC ground in place for 30 seconds and see if the continuous flash happens.
Think either of these make a difference?
Any other thing I might try?
The reset procedure wasn't clear about what to do at the end - (1) do you start the car with TC grounded or disconnected? or (2) do you switch the ignition off with TC grounded or disconnected?

Anyone have info on the end step to the reset procedure?

its a camry, that aigbag has to be working cuz your not gunna survive hitting anything cept maybe a prius or chevy aveo
I still own the 95, but I gave it to my daughter for her exclusive use. Her three little ones ride in the rear in car seats, but she's up front. I was hoping to repair the air bag issue as opposed to ignoring it. I bought the 93 for parts so I could keep her 95 running without long ordering/shipping waits for parts.
If I can't reset the ABS system, maybe the 93 has a part I can try transferring across. I didn't quite understand the tail end of the reset sequence I read on this forum and thought someone could nail it down for me.

I usually see the light doing the constant qick flash (indicating that the codes have been reset)....
Then...........Just turn the key OFF
Then.......... Pull out the Wires............DONE
If the light comes back on after your next restart.....THERE IS STILL A FAULT!
if the diagnostic port in the engine bay doesnt work, try the one under the steering wheel. it may take quite a number of tries to get the timing right.
make sure youre using a good ground, i think the only thing that worked for me one time was to use a length of wire that ran directly to the battery neg.
P.S. 22 is the dumbest error code. its like "no faults detected"
