Need help with Wife's Camry.... MIL light

Okay I need some help for my wife's 95 Camry. First off, I'm more of a Honda/Acura guy, but this isn't for me. I know I might get crap for that, but oh well. We have a 95 Camry LE with the 2.2L. Tried to get it smogged in Cali, and the MIL light is on. I read the code by using jumper wire, and I got code 25 & 26. Now I searched, but couldn't find a straight answer. I replaced the air intake hose cause it was cracked, and the 1st o2 sensor cause the wire was frayed. The code still comes up even after resetting and driving the initial 20 miles. Please help me, we need this car working.

why don't you go to an autozone or wat ev and get a free diagnostic check and then have them clear it off the comp.

Because AutoZone doesn't work with OBD1 cars, only OBD2.....

DTC 25 and 26 paired together points more toward a fuel system or ignition problem rather than an O2 sensor issue (see http://www.camrystuff.com/manuals/Gen3/eg1.pdf page 363).

The DTCs indicate that the computer thinks the engine idle rpms are "hunting" a lot. Does your Mark I ear agree with this, or does the idle sound pretty smooth (not that the 5S-FE *ever* has a silky-smooth idle).

The idle isn't very smooth. It almost sounds as if it is misfiring. I changed the spark plugs with Bosch Platinum Plus. The old ones didn't have a gas smell to them. Just black and smelled burned like they were old and been in there to long. Plus they were copper with the wrong heat range. So last person put the wrong ones in. After that, the idle was a little smoother, but still pretty rough to me. Any other sensors I should check out?? Like MAP or any other vacuum lines that are common leaks?

Dude, nobody's gonna give you crap about being a honda/acura guy

When was the timing belt last replaced?

How long ago did this start happening?

Have you checked the fuel line/injector circuits?

And then check out ignition components as well.

Good -- "sounds like it's misfiring" is consistent with the DTC 25 & 26. At least the right thing is being detected.

Sorry you bought Botch, but I guess any port in a storm. How's the plug wires look (like, maybe look under the hood after dark, while the car is running). If the last joker put in cheap-o plugs, he may've put crappy plug wires on there, too. I'd also pop off the distributor cap and take a look at the contacts inside the cap and on the rotor -- burned contacts can cause a pretty rough idle.

I wouldn't really expect that the emissions stuff could cause a rough enough idle to trigger a DTC 25 / 26. A problem with the injectors could possibly cause it, but that's such a pain to troubleshoot I'd make sure the ignition system isn't at fault first.
