1998 Camry passenger door does not open from outside
Hello all,
I am new to the forum and would like to thank all the people on here who have helped me learn so much more about fixing my g/f's 98 Camry.
I have one that I tried to search for but cannot seem to find and am looking for your insight on what to look for.
This issue is for the passenger door. We are unable to open the door from the outside. We are able to open the door from the inside to let ourselves in but not outside. The door locks work perfectly fine, the inside door handle latch works fine and able to open the door. The outside passenger door latch pulls up but does not open the door.
Any insight on what to look for or why this is happening would be great.
I was able to remove the door panel yesterday and take a look at what is causing the issue.
The outside door latch is connected to a rod. When that rod is pulled up, it releases the door. The rod that connects to the latch is coming out. I tried putting the rod back in the hole in the latch but it's not catching on. It's very loose and if I put the rod in and use the outside latch, it comes out.
I have some pictures that I will put up when I find a USB cable.
If someone has a diagram or a breakdown of parts, that would be wonderful.

post the pic when you can. I had the same problem. there is a plastic piece that holds the rod in the hole, mine had broken about $5 later I had it fixed. I can't think of the name of the part for anything so post the pic.
the best place is junkyard.... open your door cover out and see if the rubber clip that hold the rods is broken..if it's broken, then i'll not open the door...
go junkyard and get one...that is the best way to save $$$......
Sorry I couldn't get the camera in there to get an image of the tip of the rod but it fits into the "hole" really loosely and when the outside door latch is lifted, it falls straight out.

Look at the bottom of the door cavity - I suspect you'll find a clip that holds the rod tip in place. Or what's left of it. IIRC, the clip is at the end of the plastic piece and keeps it from pulling out of the hole.

That's the first thing I suspected but I couldn't find anything or hear anything rattle.
Do you know the part number or have the parts breakdown?
It looks like I need a door lock rod clip for the passenger side door.
Anyone know what that part number is and what the easiest way to install that piece?
I'm assuming the best way to go about it is to actually, take the broke clip off, put the new clip inserted into the door latch hole, then put the rod in?
