Question The age old question.

So after all the stuff I've read on TN and posts from various members here, I've decided get a real opinion on the spring/strut combo.

Mainly for, Eye8Pussies because he advised me to get Tokicos over KYBs for any drop more than 1" because Tokicos are stiffer.

So I present some contradicting info I found below.

Quote:
Bilstein or Koni's will be your best choice [for a slammed car]. Tokico & KYB are stock length struts not designed for 1.5" or more drop or adjustable sleeves. If the springs are too stiff(lowered sleeves) then aftermarket struts aren't gonna change a thing besides lasting longer than stock.
^^^He suggests Konis or Bilsteins.

Found off a reputable tuner site
Quote:
The springs had to be firm, but not to stiff. How many times have you seen lowered cars bouncing up and down? Ok, more specifically, while the car was moving? Not only does it look like you're trying to hit switches, it's flat out dangerous. When the car bounces, its contact patch gets inconsistent, increasing the chances of the tire losing complete grip--not good. If the tire were to skip off the pavement for a split second while going into a turn, you could lose control of your car and wreck it.
So will getting the Tokicos will make my car bounce because its too stiff?

If that's the case, what do I get for new struts on a car lowered around 2'? Bilstens?

Aside from the endangered species TRD-commissioned struts, there are no Bilsteins made for Gen 4s. As far as performance-oriented struts, Tokico HPs are your only option. I have nothing against KYB GR2s, I just see them as more of an OEM replacement.

Also, the struts will only hold up well if the springs you pair them with are of decent build quality. I'm skeptical of the Megans, as the comparable K-Sport springs suck ass, but whatever. I brought the same point up on SG only to have another member get all smart-ass-y on me. It's all about the risks associated with unknown products as opposed to those that are tried and true time and time again. GL with whatever your choice is.

we have recomended the tokicos because they are the best option avalible(dont think they make bilstein for the gen4 anymore either) and because tons of us have used them with 0 problems. i rode around on sprints(1.8) with tokicos and there was no bounce at all. and sprints are pretty soft springs. it would be better if a shorter shock was avalible that i dont know about...but tokicos are the best ive see besides COs.

KYBs are slightly stiffer than stock maybe one day when my KYBs go out, I'll consider getting tokicos as my next replacement. BTW do tokicos make sealed struts for gen 3s? I forgot
