967 Camry Help!?!?

Hello ya'll. First post.

My wife has a 97 Camry 4 cyl auto. Been a great car. She seldom drives it and today she tried to crank it and nothing. Car has a new battery and she has been known to leave the door ajar and run the battery down so I hooked up jumper cables and her headlights came on. I let the bat charge for a few min and tried to crank, just a couple of clicks from under the hood then nothing. The lights stayed on but nothing else on the car works. No blinker no radio, wiper, nothing except the air bag light is on always. I pulled the fuses to kill the head lights.

My thoughts are that there is a relay gone bad. suggestionsas to which one or other causes of this issue? I have a couple of days to look for the problem before I have it towed to the shop.

Thnaks for your time.

check the 40 AMP alternator fuse in the hood to have the electricity back into the car. in order to start the car, turn everything off, charge the battery with another car and while the other car is running try to start the camry, if that doesnt help buy a new starter

Thanks , will check that fuse tomorrow. Will a bad starter keep everything else from getting power?

No.

I have to agree with creeps228. Check the alternator fuse. Someone may have crossed the jumper cables when trying to jump start the car. That would blow the alternator fuse and give you the symptoms you are experiencing.

Thanks guys. It looks like it might quit raining here in an hour or two. It's been raining for 2 days now. I'll pull that fuse and see what it looks like.

OK. Theres's a 40 amp main and a 100 amp Alt fuse. Meter bit the dust after 18 years got to open the new one and throw out the instructions, then I'll check the ohm's on both fuses.

100 Amp Alt fuse is toast. Is there a secret to it's removal? I worked it as well as I could and the clear plastic top came off, then the fuse body came off, but the metal spades are still in the fuse box and I cant get them lose.

Do they have a release? Don't want to ruin the fuse box.

Thanks Wayne

It comes out of the bottom of the fuse box, you have to disconnect and remove the battery and then detach the forward fuse box from the fender, then move the box so you can release the bottom. The clips are sensitive and easy to damage - don't pry them out as they'll break - they push in. The two fuses pull out together. You need a 10mm and 8mm closed end wrench to loosen the hex head screws holding the fuse terminals.
