Airbag sensor came off

Hi guys,

I was involved in a collision yesterday. i was not found at fault. basically, i rammed into a car turning at an intersection and I suffered heavy front nose damage on my 99 camry while the other car had damage on the rear right door and quarterpanel.

When i got home later, I discovered the passenger side air bag sensor had broken off from the chassis. None of the airbags were deployed during the accident. My airbag lights did not come on. My question is if I continue to drive this car, will the airbags go off all of a sudden? Should I just epoxy the sensor back on the chassis and it'll be fine? Thanks in advance.

barry.

If you were in an accident, and NOT at fault, the other person;s insurance should pay for a rental car if yours is not able to be driven, or, as in theis case, unsafe to drive. You should get a rental car and not drive it like that.

Your initial damage (collision) may not have been forceful enough to trigger airbags to inflate.

Loose sensor bouncing around now may cause unexpected deployment and serious injury to you at anytime.

What is Insurance going to do with your car regarding repair and when? Like Adam suggested, do not drive car in this condition.

Thanks for the reply guys. Actually, the lady didn't exchange info with me after the accident though a police report was filed. I called today and the report won't be ready till tomorrow since today was a holiday. can i epoxy that sensor back to the chassis for now? i would still need to go to the police station to pick up the report and to the adjuster so they can estimate how much the damage will cost or do i not?

If I were you, I'd pull out the SRS (Airbag) fuse, and then tape the sensor on. But unhook your (-) bettery terminal for 15 minutes before you pull the fuse just for safety. Pulling the fuse will disable the SRS (Airbag) system, and not allow the airbags to go off.
