Of course you can, take off the timing belt cover.

That cover is for protection of the belt, and moving parts when you open the hood.

well we only have one cam gear that is connected to one cam shaft and then geared to the other one...so its basically not necessary

you have one cam gear...
the 5sfe is a DOHC motor that uses a scissor gear setup that allows both cams to utalize one single cam gear.

the only reason to expose cam gears is if you have a built engine with adjustable gears, that way you can adjust them ... which your Gen 4 doesnt have

that plus what was mentioned above makes the answer "no"

may we again point out that the 4cyl gen 4 camry is not a performance car?
