While I was installing my new CD player into the dash, the top left screw that holds the cage (CD player/Pocket) slipped off my nut driver and fell between a crease right below the lighter's wiring. Is there any way I can get back the screw? I do not want to drive the car before the screw causes any shorts or damages. I have a picture attached indicating where the screw fell through. (This is not my picture as my camera does not work. It is being used only to indicate where the screw fell) http://s258.photobucket.com/albums/h...rrent=Dash.jpg
i don't think it will cause any problems but if you really want to get it out you can pull the center console off really simple if i can remember correctly it about 6 screws 2 in the arm rest 2 behind the shifter which you have to use a flat head to to pick up and the rest are below each side of the dash good look and don't think about it too much i have dropped screws behind there also and left it until i pulled the console off
Option 1:
Take out the entire center console and the console directly underneath the radio. Pull back the carpet and hunt around for the screw. (I had one screw fall when I installed my new radio. I didn't replace it and It was fine. I ended up finding it 2 years later when I installed my security/remote start system. I had A LOT of the interior removed.)
Option 2:
Leave it there. Like I said, it'll be fine. The radio isn't going anywhere. Also, as I said, I'm familiar with that area b/c of my alarm install. I'm 99.9% sure it's not gonna cause any shorts.

I have to agree. Just leave it there. My 94 Camry has several screws that fell down there. Just take one of the remaining screws to the hardware store and get a replacement. You will probably have to get a pan head phillips screw as the hexwasher head phillips screws that Toyota uses are hard to come by. You may want to try a dealer for one if you really want the original screw, but chances are the dealer won't have it in stock. The pan head phillips screw will work fine. It doesn't show once the trim pieces are back in place.
Thank you guys for re-assuring me that the screw will not cause any problems. I have a new issue with the CD player now. It will not fit all the way in, and if it does, the black trimming that goes around the cd unit and the pocket jams on the trimming that the CD player has. Right now it looks ugly because I had to have the cd player project out to leave enough space for the black trimming to set. Any ideas?
pictures would be helpful to see what's actually going on... can you describe whats hitting a little better?

Trim away at the plastic until it does fit. Also, make sure you get all the wiring out of the way at the back of the stereo when you push it all back. That extra harness tends to bunch up and get in the way.
^ 7 posts in, and he's got it down! I was gonna say dremel it away, but I wasnt sure if anyone had done that. Wires tend to like to be shoved DOWN and to the RIGHT of the console. At least thats where mine went.

I was planning to do that, but when I upgrade the cd deck to something more better in the future, the trimming will make it look ugly since I have damaged it with the grinding.
^ youre not going to see any of the plastic trimmed away.... the bezel around the CD player its self covers up everything....

well guys, after applying all my strength to get the black "U" shaped trimming to snap back in, the trimming that that was in the way gave way and it popped off . I was speechless on how it just popped off and everything just simply snapped into place. I finally got my camera working and I will have some pictures up by tomorrow. No pictures today due to heavy rain
lol blackhawk, yes, i do live in brooklyn. Thanks for the offer, but i wont be needing it since everything works perfectly now. I was referring to the trimming that was on the CD player (as seen in the picture) that was preventing the black "U" trim from snapping back into place. I will have some more pictures up by tomorrow that shows how everything looks. Here is the piece that was in the way

I just installed my AVH-P3100DVD tonight and the poor excuse for a trim ring that is included was not even needed. After the dash piece was reinstalled, it looked perfect.
Once I complete my wood dash, I think it will complement it nicely!
