Help please 98 Camry missing!

Hi

Recently bought a 2.2 litre 98 Camry

long story short, ever since i bought the car it has had a slight misfire. I just thought it would need a good service but I have now done this and am still having issues. I have changed the oil, the coolant and the whole ignition system I believe including plugs, leads and the coil/ignitor packs.

This has definitely improved things but there is still a slight miss Have I missed something or is there anything else I should be checking on these cars??

Thanks Chris

Has it been tuned up? Like timing belt, valve clearance, injector cleaning (Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner).

With an old car, you never know how good these parts are. Maybe run a compression test or leak down test on this unknown engine?

^ I agree with JohnGD. If you are really getting a missfire and you have already changed all the ignition system components, it could be caused by a clogged fuel injector. The Chevron with Techron is a good thought. I would also do a thorough cleaning of the throttle body. Here's a good thread on how to do it:

Probably a dumb question but are you running the A/C? If so, try driving with it off and see if you still have the 'slight' misfire. I would swear my '01 and '04 are misfiring but it's just the compressor loading the engine when it kicks on. Might check it with a code reader too. It might show something if it is misfiring.

cheers fellas, haven't actually had the timing checked so will get on that.

One thing I thought of was the sensors though? Would I need to test all of these seperatly or will sticking it on the diagnostics tell me if there's an issue?

Thanks for all the replies!!
