4th Generation 95 Camry LE

hey guys,

I got a 95 Camry LE with 116K miles for $500. The motor sound SOLD, and smooth. I love it.

However the transmission is a little iffy. If I stop at a stop light or stuck in traffic, I'll left the car in drive but when I hit the gas, the engine rev but the car doesn't move. This does not happen all the time, just maybe one out of ten times I stop.

The speedometer works fine, but when I let off the gas it drops to zero, if I try the gas pedal it will show proper speed.

I talk to a friend, he said the clutch cable might stretch and need adjust or replace.

I've drain the fluid and change the filter and fill it back up already. NOTE. I didn't flush it, I just drain, change filter and fill it back up.

Any tough, it's Automatic.

Mike

If trans engages immediately when gear selected i doubt cable is out of adjustment. Other than COMPLETE drain/flush/refill, other options probably expensive. Pressure check of trans could help with diagnosis but I've found usually trans shops (especially national chains) want complete trans replacement even for small problems that could be fixable. $500 for 95 is great deal so maybe living with trans small price to pay? I've used this product twice with success each time(1 Toyota, 1 Mazda); http://www.transmaticsc.com/
but I would redcommend complete trans flush fill first. If you try it get back to us on outcome.

No the tranny does not engaged immediately. I have to press the gas let the car rev alittle then it will actually engaged. If I stop at a stop light or sign, it will disengaged automatically and after a few seconds of giving it alittle gas it will engaged again. If I'm cursing at low speed, it will feel like the car drop a gear by itself and rpm will go up alittle and then when it changes by it self back it will, go back to normal.

I already change the fluid and filter, but that's just drain and fill not flush. I know it's a big difference.

But in any case, how would I go about adjusting the clutch cable?

Sounds like pressure problems - not sounding good. I guess your O/D light is not blinking - which would give you a trouble code? There is only slight adustment of throttle cable and gear selector. Too tough to write. PM me with email and I'll scan and send 95 FSM page describing adjustment. If it's out of adjustment too much then that could affect pressure - right now your only low cost fix.
