3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I'm putting (or trying to, anyway) a set of Eibach Pro-Kit springs on my '94 Camry with Tokico Blues. The back springs and strut installed OK. But in front, the spring doesn't fit into the lower spring perch on the strut like it should. When the end of the spring is seated in the perch, the other side overhangs the strut. It should fit inside the perch all the way around.
The stock springs are a few mm less in diameter, and the Toyota OE struts and Tokico struts seem like they're the same size. Looks to me like the problem is an oversized spring. Eibach tells me that they measured another spring and that they all measure about the same as mine (191mm). The Toyota OE spring and H&R OE Sports are closer to 186mm. Has anyone else run into this? What did you do?
The car looks pretty funny right now since it's going uphill with the lowered rear. If anyone has a set of springs laying around in the garage and would be willing to measure them and post the result, it'd be a big help to confirm that it's not just an odd spring or two.
thanks
Jim
That looks exactly the same as when I just did mine, and they're doing great!
Someone else MIGHT want to chime in here, but I just literally changed out my springs a couple days ago and they sit a little bit differently than the OEM ones did, but they're in there perfectly
Hmm... I had both the mechanic working on my car - a guy that does this stuff for a living - and a Tokico engineer tell me that the overhang wasn't right. That made me pretty nervous about just putting them in. I'm still on the fence thinking about just canning the Eibachs and getting H&R's and starting over on the rear.
litterally hundreds of others have had the same setup and never had issues. maby they never noticed. and maby that has contributed to the "clunky" gen3 suspension issue. but ive never seen any problems to date like this.
^ This might shed some light as to the clunking issue. I am going to check my H&R and KYB combo and take pics of it tonight and show you guys if I have any over hang.
OP wait for my pics before canning the eibach setup.

Sorry for the late reply.... ^^^My clunking could also be from the TRD RSB but I have yet to able to drop the RSB and road test it. Now I have coilovers and drop the RSB would be fatal.
Here is the pic of the front strut and spring (H&R + KYB)
Rear strut and spring (H&R + KYB)

Thanks for the pics. Looks like the H&Rs fit perfectly. If I can't sort this out with another call to Eibach, guess I'll have to order a set of H&R's and start over again.

Plus the H&R will give you a lower drop compared to the Eibach.
Don't forget I am running KYB not Tokico

Had the Eibach's in for a week and had the overhang. This caused the clunking for me in the front. Replaced them with H&R. I still have the Eibach which were on my car for a week if anyone wants to buy them for dirt cheap.
thegmann, the picture was taken with the spring and strut off the car. After putting the strut and spring together and finding the overlap, we didn't bother to put them in the car.
