Towing with the ol'Camry

So I am needing to tow my motorcycle when I move. In doing some research, the camry is able to tow up to 2000lbs. The 4x8 trailer i bought weighs only 250lbs and my motorcycle is around 450lbs. So 700lbs is well within the abilities of the car. Now the question is I would be going from Atlanta to Fort Worth Tx, so the trip is pretty flat and a straight shot on I-20, would I really need to install a trans cooler? Would it really be worth it? I really wont be using the Camry to tow my motorcycle but a few times. So would it be worth it? Any input is much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

You may well get away without the cooler but for the small cost I would install it. The weight is only one aspect of the load. The aerodynamic drag is the othere and just as big and ememy if not worse. If you do try to go without the cooler I would suggest draining and refilling transmission before and after the trip.

FWIW -

Using my Camry I have towed :

a motorcyle on a trailer from Ohio to Atlanta;
a Mazda RX7 on a tow dolly from Savannah to Charleston, then back to Atlanta;
another RX7 from Knoxville to Atlanta
a LT1 engine & trans in a trailer from knoxville to Atlanta;
3 cars from Atlanta to Birmingham Ala and back (track days) on tow dollys;
and numerous other items.

All this over the last eight years I have owned the car.
I bought it with 70k on it and it now has over 180k on it.
It is a 1995 LE V6 auto.
No trans cooler, no trans repairs and no trans problems yet.
