3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
yup. it's possible. I dont see how it wouldn't be. just to be safe go to ebay or something and look at head gaskets for both engines and compare passages.

I have compared pics of both HGs (and did NOT mix up L&R). They look identical. Took 15 min to do it to make sure, as well as compared multiple pics of each.
also:
I am not boosting...Wouldn't the MLS HG lower the compression a little, in turn, lowering power? I never had a HG problem with the Graphite one (135k mi)...If I am throwing a new graphite on there i can at least expect 100k miles im assuming...
(I really appreciate the help...also a good thing to set straight for future TNers..)
Any links to other discussions would help also...
If I have to plug the oil passages, its no big deal for me, although maybe not for other people. I have a great machine shop that will do anything for me, and does insanely good work. remember this is not a 1mz/3mz swap or anything, just 1mz to 1mz.

what adam said about the oil passages (I read wrong and thought that yo uwere using a vvti head instead of a block), and then just use whatever head gasket you want
if it's staying na, then any oem spec gasket would do just fine
if the coolant passages and other oil passages match up, then you should be good

what about the ECM?? wouldn't the comp need to know when to open the oil passage??
honda ecu's are interchangable and v-tec can be activated automatically with the ecu or thru a switch in the cab.
its kinda like v-tec in honda's
the blocks are all the same in b18's some of them just have v-tec and some don't
example a stock b18 b(160hp- 'ls' ) is a non v-tec motor while a b18c(180hptype r usa) is and a b18c5(195hp/'type-r jdm')
people build "poor man type r's) which is a ls/v-tec b18b block with b18c5 heads and cams 215whp.
so it can be done... i'm looking to do a head and cam change on my 4thgen...
good luck and post something when you find it... i'll do the same cause i'm sure there are more people thinking about it just not willing to do the work.
