Factory CD player?! Options?!

I have an all stock 98 Camry LE I would like to keep that way. It only has the factory cassette player/radio with the empty DIN space underneath for storage.

What are my *correct* options as far as buying an original factory CD player that will be simply plug-n-play with not needing anything extra? Exact models numbers would be nice to I can better search eBay and such.

I don't want a changer either. I have seen double DIN CD/Cassette combos and also slave single DIN CD players. Am I to presume that I can use either or will only the single DIN slave work for me?

Also, any tips on places I can buy these in mint/near mint condition IE; NIB, refurb, or gently used?

Thanks!

EDIT: I found this site but still don't know exactly what Toyota PN I need...

I figured $100 was cheap as long as it's mint, most have perfect ratings for condition...

You know where I can get one for $50? lol

I did this same swap a couple months ago. My 98 had the cassete/radio. I was able to swap in a 99 CD/radio/cass no problem. It HAS to be from a non JBL car though. The JBL ones have a separate amp and different wire harnesses and it would be a pain to rewire everything.

The way to check for non JBL is either look under the seat, kick panels for an amp, or pull out he radio and check.

My car didnt have tweeters in the door, but the 99 non JBL did have them. However everything works just fine without the tweeters in the door. (I jacked the covers to make it look as if I have tweeters lol)

Do you know the Toyota P/N? Was it the double DIN unit or the single DIN slave? The harness just unplugs from the cassette/radio and plugs right into the new unit? What about the mounting brackets?

I'm sure my 98 is non-JBL

I still need a P/N to even begin my search because even when I search eBay, there seems to be no consistancy to what comes up for a 1998, same for Google.

I do not want a junkyard unit because they will be sunbaked or who knows what. It want it to function and appear brand new.

I just bought this slave to plug into my head unit:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=370214646645

Not a bad price...

BTW, where is the tutorial on how to get the dash apart to install a CD player for a gen 4 Camry?!

NM! I figured out how to remove the ashtry and unsnap the surround to get to the mounting points!

Also I would have loved to buy the full 2DIN single unit but it was more than another $100 and I have many other cars that could better use the $$$ lol.

The mounts and wiring are all the same, plug and play. It was a double din.

Installation is easy. Take the ashtray out and pull (pretty hard) outwards on the trim piece around the radio/climate controls. and after it pops out its only 4 bols and 2 wireharness.

Just a tip. www.installdr.com will show you how to replace the radio.

Also go to www.toyodiy.com and you can get part numbers off of there.
