Replacing rear speakers

Do i have to take the whole rear deck off to replace them? I got the third brake light off already and a couple clips off the rear deck. The only problem is when i keep pulling it off, the wood is cracking. Are there bolts or anything holding it in?

Any DIY's?

The car is a 97 Camry LE

There was a DIY somehwere in google groups I read. I think you also have to pull out the plastic trim panels from the rear window C pillar.

I'm wondering about this too except on a 96 Camry.. shouldn't be too different. Have been reading around and hearing that a lot of stuff has to be taken off, so I'm trying to get as much info as I can before I make any moves. If only the right rear speaker didn't blow on me... sigh. Any links to guides anyone?

No, those panels don't have to be removed.
1) remove the back seat bottom by pulling up at the front edge
2) drop the seat backs
3) remove the side bolsters by removing the 10mm bolt at the bottom, then slide them up and out
4) remove the "gasket" around the pass through opening
5) remove the plastic trim panels on either side of the pass through
6) remove the 2 screws on the front of deck trim panel
7) remove the 3rd brake light housing
8) remove the 3rd brake light reflector assembly (10mm bolt)
9) pull deck trim panel forward
10) remove rear speakers (10mm bolts)

That should be it. Well, that's what I remember from when I upgraded my rear speakers a year ago.

It is all clips to remove the rear deck . The rear deck's clips come off butt the deck won't come out because it's blocked in by wires on the side pillar.
