3rd Generation Raptor's 1993 V-6 Transmission Swap Thread

I thought i should post again on my transmission swap because my moms Boyfriend who runs a nice transmission garage in my state said he would be more than willing to do the swap... which im VERY excited about! he will do it for cheap since well he's my moms boyfriend. now i need some tips to tell him because i dont think he has done this before on this particular model... so i want to know using this guys write up http://www.1jz.com/camry/guide-trans.htm should i go with the E153 since ive heard its stronger and shifts better? or should i just have him find a 92-93 SE v-6 in the various junk yards he has access to and use the parts from that... tranny, console, shifter base, ect... and do i need the axles from that model or...? what do you guys think use e153 and various parts from gen 4 to fit mine or just be safe and use E53 and go from there? what parts from the 93 SE would i need to have him get could someone make me a quick list?

And yes Knailgun feel free to comment even though we discussed part of this last night lol

okay well there are a few wright up use the search function i did my swap and i used a
2000 solara for the parts tranny flywheel lift and right full axles
the shift assembly pedal master cylinder shifter cables i used came from 3rd gen camry
every thing went well best to do it on a lift i would say i did it in my front yard and it was a little bit of a bitch.... the only issue is wiring afterwords i did every thing correctly but the resistors did not well a does not seem to be working i used 15 ohm 20 watts and i still get a check engine light... king used 10 ohm 20watt which is what ratko used i followed jon the link you have above and he made it seem as though you can use 15 ohm 20 watt resistor and like i said i still have the check engine light and have started a couple threads asking for assistance and thus far no help so that the down side right now

hope i was helpful

okay so now im alittle confused should i have him get the parts from a 2000 solara and then use the shift assembly pedal master cylinder shifter cables from a 92-93 SE? would this be the easiest route to take?

and you have the same modle as me correct?

or just stick with the 92-93 SE manual transmission (E53) ??

should i also get a manual ECU so i dont run into problems?

the pedal/shifter, clutch master, slave, etc are all interchangeable

as for the tranny, go with the e153, which means you'll need the 5-speed axles as well

and since you have the option of a 5-speed ecu, go pick that up as well and save yourself hte headache

aww dude you dont know how long ive been waiting to talk to you okay ill go with the e153 which model camry should he get ahold of cause he can get all the parts if you just give me the name of the car should i do the 2000 solara or??? which would be the easiest to get ahold of and deal with?

so ill just have him strip the pedals shifter, clutch master, slave, etc from the car aswell so why not lol its already there so i will take it i guess blackhawk took the trimmings from the ES just cause its a different style i take it? cause eye says it doesnt really matter which is good news for me!

couple of quick clarifications...

for the shifter base that will come out of the solara? and fit right into my console? cause i dont need a hand e brake my foot brake is fine its just more work and i dont want to rip out my console.

and for the cruise control how do i get that to work? or will it be all fine with the manual ECU?

and this should go smoothly? (i hope...) i will post pics when im up there doing the swap

you HAVE to get the hand brake, because otherwise, it will be in the way of your clutch....

and yes, the console will basically just bolt onto your car- you'll have to trim some of the plastic to make it fit inside your console though, but that'll be easy to figure out. If you don't want to have to do that, you can go with a shifter from a gen3

as for parts, any gen4 camry, solara, or gen3 5-speed parts will work- besides for the master and slave cylinder- they have different part numbers between the i4 and v6

and as for the cruise control...I never got mine to work and never really thought too much about it. with the manual ecu, I might work, but I suspect that the cruise control computer is different between the auto an 5-speed though- but not sure.

keep us posted

so wait do i have him take the entire console from the 1999 solara or do I just have him get the shifter assembly and then trim that..? and with the hand brake will that just goto the side of my existing console or is that also what the solara console is for? Its these little questions that make this go by quicker

oh whoops...forgot to mention that....my bad

hand brake you will need from a gen3- either v6 se 5-speed or a 4banger, same with the center console trim.
the trim and hand brakes on the gen3 and 4 are non-interchangeable. everything else is though.

okay well since the ECU isn't gonna work I'll have him find an ecu out of a 1992-1993 v-6 but for the meantime I'll have him fool the auto ecu into nuetral And I'll go from there any pointers on the fooling process while I brought the subject up? I bet eye has some good info on it ^_^

if all you want to do is make the car run for now, just wire the neutral wires together on the tranny loom in the engine bay and you're ready to go
