4th Generation Aftermarket Stereo Problems

Hey eveyone,
Listen I am having some touble with my aftermarket stereo. I installed it according to a wiring diagram I had and hooked all the wiring for the aftermarket stereo correctly, but for some reason my headlights control my stereo. As soon as I start my car the stereo will not work but when i turn my headlights or even the corner lamps on the stereo turns on but shuts off when I tun he headlights off. It seems like the headlights ae powering my stereo. Any Ideas what could be causing this????

P.S. - This is a 2001 Camry

Sounds like you got your dimmer wire and your ignition wire switched.

In the aftermarket radios I have worked on, the dimmer wire is orange, and the ignition wire is red.

I hooked the power wire from my stereo to the blue and yellow wire, which is the constant 12+V from my batery. I hook the Ground wire to the brown wire which is the ground for the car. And I hooked with my red illumination wire from my stereo to the green illumition wire from the car. seems to be all connected corectly

Go and double check it is what i would do. If that doesn't seem to work out, bring it to a shop or something or even have someone else look at it

Check out the wiring here.

http://crutchfield.custhelp.com/cgi-...i=&p_topview=1

There are two power wires. The constant, which you have, and then the accessory wire. Labeled as GY (my guesses are grey, or Green with yellow stripe) this is the wire you are having problems with.

Sounds as if you cut the factory wires too. Or did you buy a wiring harness? Anyhow it sounds as if your accessory wire is hooked to your illumination. The wire for illumination is typically orange, and not red.
