Hey guys, I just picked up this Camry and trying to solve this problem.

The speedo is not working properly, it does it own thing, bounding up not giving the correct reading, and when I take my foot off the gas, it drops to 0 MPH right away, and the car is still moving.

I'm also having transmission issue (might be related). When I take my foot off the gas it feels like it drop a gear by itself because the RPM goes up, or even at low speeds it would jump to a lower gear by itself. (Leaving me to believe that the speed sensor is sending wrong reading to the Computer and the computer is confused when to change gear, but I could be wrong, correct me please if I am)

The motor works great, no complaint there. Idle fine, no knocking or anything.

Please advise above, and also.

Where is the vehicle speed sensor located? (I've read here on the transmission, but can I get a picture of it where on the tranny it's located)

I have a 1995 Camry LE 2.2 Auto

Thanks
Mike

it is on the top of the transmission near the back...you'll see a plug go to it- there are two single plugs, one for your reverse signal, and one for the speed sensor. If I remember correctly, that the speed sensor is closer to the firewall

I found it, thanks.

Does that seem like the right step towards my problem though?

it is very likely, yes, especially since you described the other problems with the transmission not being able to pick a gear (I believe that the ecu also uses speed to choose gears- logically speaking)

if you can pick up a vss for a decent price, it's well worth the try, I'd think.

My moms Honda does the same thing. It drops a gear when I let the let off the accelerator. I also find that it drives on a higher RPM on the freeway or anything above 100km/h. And when I do hit the gas on the freeway the rpm drops down like it switched to final drive.

Let me know if you are experiencing the same problems.
