4th Generation Cooper tires

I am looking for opinions of Cooper tires. I am about to replace the tires on my 2001 Camry (P205/65R15) and have found a pretty good price on their top of the line tire. ($87.15 each out the door) I don't know anything about Cooper and would like some opinions pro and con. Thanks.

Cooper has been around for a long long time, and have had their hand in formula 1 tires, so they know their stuff. I would say that they have good tread life and wear well, and have moderately good traction, they are an all purpose tire and do well on gravel and tar but suffer a bit in heavy rain.

EDIT: their are much better options for snow, but I don't think that is really a concern here.

We might get 2" of snow every 10 years here in Southeast Al.

My opinion, get the Michelin's. I have the Semetry, and they run great on my cars. I don't know Coopers and I'd like to try Bridgestones. I won't run a Mich on my bike... but I'd put them on a car in a heartbeat. Gamble man and "go fer it". I get mine at Wal-Mart....ya that's right...

Haven't heard of that brand, but I buy my tires from Costco so I really only see the big brands like Michelin, BF Goodrich, Goodyear, etc..

I put Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S tires on both of my Camrys (in the same size as yours) and they're the best tires I've ever had the pleasure of driving on, and that includes expensive Michelin Energy MXV4+ tires which was utter crap.

Check out TireRack's website for reviews on tires, I found it very helpful when i was looking around.

^^^ Bridgestone are nice but are WAYYYY overpriced! I haven't heard much about cooper tires, but when it comes to tires, I like to go with big names. Like I said, Bridgestones handle well. I had the opportunity to drive a 98 camry with brigestone potenza's and they were very nice, but you pay the premium. Michelins are nice, they last very long, but their high end tires will run you at 500$ installed at Costco. I am currently running Michelin X Ice's in the winter and they have very good tread life. So far they have run 3 seasons and look like they can go another three. Good Year's are moderatly prices and have decent tread life in my experience. I am currently running Dunlop SP Sport 4000's which are the same tires that my car comes out of the factory with, and let me tell you they are DEAD QUIET!! I really like them, but their tread life is debatable and iffy. Probably due to their very soft sidewalls... They are well priced, I got a very good deal on them when I purchased them last year. I bought them from a shop that was selling out their inventory due to closing and snagged all four for 150$ out the door. Don't be detered by shops that don't install, Wal Mart installs for 50$ and offers lifetime rotation and balacing along with it.

My OEM tires were Bridgestone Potenza RE92s and they were awful. I replaced them around the 27K mile mark with plenty of tread left because I was tired of slipping around in the rain. Each brand has their good and bad tires, but really, why bother putting out a tire with the potential to turn a customer away from your entire line? I didn't even look at Bridgestone for either Camry when it came time to replace their tires.

Cooper? Haven't heard this for a looooong time. These days its Michelin for me primarily, because Costco carries it and offers pretty good service and convenience.

When they carried the Bridgestones/Firestones some whiles back these look cheap, material and flimsy sidewall construction. However, many seem to like some of their products. Check out TireRack for reviews, not just the numbers, but read the problems people have with pulls, out-of-rounds, etc. That's another reason I stick with Michelins.

Get any tire that will give you a smoother ride. I put Coopers on my Camaro, the rubber seems more durable, they kicked out pretty easily in the rain though. I don't pay allot for tires, these things eat tires. But, I don't go to Walmart and have the cheapest good year put on like my girlfriend does, I go to a privately owned tire shop and they give you about 4 choices to pick from in stock, more than Walmart ever will. This is what I put on last time and yeah, it's kind of a cheap tire, a step up from the 40 thousand mile tire. Mostly I got them because I don't want my front tires spinning and clunking on my CV axles when I punch it at stop light and wind up spinning out on ice or oil. Tire choice has allot to do with road types, conditions, and climate. I don't worry much with having the full size spare tire..

Potenza is an excellent tire for SUMMER DRY weather only. I have it on a BMW once, and can't get no where in 2 inch of snow.

i have a set of cooper (touring, i believe) tires on my camry right now and love them. quiet and smooth on the highway in both dry and wet conditions. just okay in snow, but you dont have to worry about that! these were on the car when i bought it, but ive put about 50k miles on them and they are certainly holding up well. i probably can get another 15-20k miles out of them. i would certainly get these again.

I have used cooper tires on work van (Chev 2500) before, and found them to be good value, but feel that they are on the cheaper (Not flimsy, just feels cheaper or less refined) than Hankook tires that were previously on that van.

Fore your situation, I would check out Falken tires, I am using 912's on both of my camrys right now.

I have bridgestone blizzak winter tires on my camry atm, they came the wheels I bought ($150 w tires). I'm going to use my steels in the winter so I'm going to use them up this summer. They are, interesting in the rain, fun on dirt but LOUD on dry tar. On my why home I took an off ramp quickly in the rain and it was on the edge of drifting. You definitely need the right tires for the right situation.
