4th Generation 2001 Dome/map light additi9on

I have a 2001 Camry that came with an overhead console that houses only the sunglass case but no lights. I was interested in replacing the sunglass case console with the console that DOES have the map lights. Does anyone know how I can make this work? I assumed I could 'feed' it from the dome light but I am not sure. any help would be apreciated.

Try using the search function, I believe it's been done or talked about before... By the way

I did this about 5 years ago.

I got the overhead console from a similar year Toyota Tundra. I wired the lights for the maps lights the dome light.

You need to drill new holes under the the storage compartment as the screw locations are slightly different. However, it's not a big deal.

I considered using the maplights from a newer Camry, but after taking some measurements, I found out it was too deep, so I used this one.

4th Generation Console addition

Thanks alot for your reply, Tom 2000. When you said "You need to drill new holes under the the storage compartment as the screw locations are slightly different" you meant drilling holes on the plastic console correct.
I just purchased a console from another Camry. My big concern was really on how to wire it. I am an electrician so i've got some knowledge but have never messed with 12V on my car. What do I need in regards to wiring???

Yes, drilling the plastic was what I meant.

What I recall is I used 18GA wires and ran the wires in parallel from the dome light. I rememeber using some splices and a lug on the domelight end as well.

The map lights on the Tundra overhead console is designed to be dome lights as well as map lights, so those lights come on when I open the doors also.

Just a reminder: Do remove the fuse for this circuit when you work this as the domelight wires are "hot" regardless of whether the key is in the ignition.

4th Generation Dome addition, door open not working, HELP!

Hey guys,
I was adding a light on my Camry and I accidently blew a fuse (actually a same one couple of times). I noticed that after I replaced the fuse my "DOOR OPEN" light did not turn on. My dome light also did not turn on anymore. Does anyone know what might have happened??
