3rd Generation high idle issue

Hi I'm new to this forum. I just bought a 93 Camry V6 XLE and it has an issue with the idle and I can't figure it out. I want bringing it to the dealership to get it diagnosed to be the last resort cause i'm low on cash. Well the problem is that when its warmed up the idle sits around 1,200 sometimes it goes higher until i hit the gas in park and it goes back to 1,200 then when I put in drive it jumps into gear because the idles so high and rpms go down to about 950 to 1,000 and then when I put it in park goes back to 1,200 or higher so I have not been driving because I dont want to mess anything up. I already cleaned the IAC and the throttle body with o2 safe cleaner and also replaced the pcv valve did not make any difference still does the same thing. any help would be great

Check your throttle position sensor (make sure it is not loose and is adjusted properly, and no dead spots), your air intake sensor/flap near the air filter to make sure it isn't stuck. Then check all of the vacuum hoses for any cracks. It could be a bad IAC, but on the V6, those IAC's are pretty robust. It can also be the engine temp sensor on the water jacket.

I would check 3 things:

-Idle Air Control Valve
-Throttle position sensor
-Inlet and outlet temperature sensors for the radiator

Remove the air filter cover and observe its operation when reving the engine. it should be completely closed (I think) when the engine is off. Maybe someone else can pipe in with details on this one since I'm not too familiar with its specific behavior under different conditions.

You may also want to remove the 4" intake hose and observe the operation of the IAC piston valve just inside the TB. If that is sticking, you may find it struggling to seat as the throttle plate is opened and closed. Also make sure the throttle butterfly plate is fully closed when the engine is idling. Something may be sticking on that mechanism.

If you have a vacuum leak somewhere on your gaskets, you can use some carb cleaner fluid or something similar and spray around the intake plemnum gasket area and other areas. Has there been any disassembly of the intake or TB parts prior to this high idle symptom?

There is a procedure to check and adjust the TPS. Do you have the manual?
Did u use a new gasket when you installed the new IAC?

3rd Generation

Check thoroughly yourself for a vaccuum leak, feel around because this has happened to me plenty of times

Yes check for a vacuum leak that can definately raise the idle on your car. The idle air control valve is also another good candidate for having high idle
