AC Controls/Blower

2001 Camry LE

My air flow controls have four settings. I am not getting any air flow unless I turn my control to 3 or 4. 1 and 2 don't produce any air. Any ideas? TIA.

It sounds like it might be your blower motor resistor. I've come across a few threads here before on this. I think one of them had pictures. However if it were me, I would go to www.toyodiy.com and get an idea of how to get at the part.

I believe this is a direct link. You can use the part number to order that directly from any of the toyotaparts websites.

So can someone tell me more about this resistor? I just noticed the problem today that I have no airflow when I turn over the switches 1-3, and the blower finally kicks on when set to HI. I assume I have the same problem as above.

Also, it might not be a big deal, but I also noticed the vent flaps became louder as I turn the switch from floor, to dash, etc. Any help appreciated! Thanks.

They used to be wire-wound resistors (one for each speed except high) but they're increasingly electronic. Usually they are pretty easy to find. The wires should be visible but the resistors are inside the plenum. Typically one or two screws holding the block in the plenum. Probably on the passenger side but closer to the center and up higher. Unplug the wires, remove the screws and work the block with the resistor pack out. Maybe try a youtube search as it's likely someone has posted at least a similar repair. For those with cabin filters, it's important not to let it get too junked up. Most of these resistor packs are cooled by air flow in the plenum and a clogged filter can/will cause the pack to overheat and fail. The electronic ones are often rather expensive, upwards to $100 or even more.
