1995 Gen3 CD Player Install

OK my gf has a gen 3 (i think).. well i bought a cd player and put it in everything is ok but the trim ring wont pop into place. and the cd player itself sticks out kind a far.. now seeing as though this is a girls car she likes the factory look and is disappointed by it sticking out that far, i just took out the oem tape player and put in the sony xplode(ya its a girls car doesnt need anything special).. the bolts fit in perfect and everything but is there something i can buy to make it fit back farther and get the plastic trim ring to fit on?

thanks in advance.

nope, not unless they make a different bracket....but as far as i know nearly any aftermarket radio is gonna stick out further than an oem unit.

You just have to modify the bracket in order for it to sit further back...i.e. just drill some holes in it.

ya i mean i think something needs to be done, im not a big person on half assed installs or ghetto shit thats gonna fall apart.. they either need to come out with different form factors like the computer companies have managed to do, or figure something that will help in this circumstance.

thanks for the posts.

Earlier model Toyota's (before the current generation models) had ISO mount radios. The aftermarket radio doesn't need the trim ring because the cage/sleeve wasn't used to installed the radio (I've only installed Pioneers, and their decks the trim ring clipped onto the cage/sleeve, not sure about the Sony Xplode). The brackets on the stock radio were transferred to the aftermarket one (thus most Toyota's didn't need a dash kit).

what model cd player is yours?

im think im going to exchange it for the pioneer to get a better matching color, and then drill the holes and be done with it...
