Wrong plug wires-caused car to run hot?

Car was tuned up 2 months ago with new plugs and wires. Last week it was run hot by someone loaned to and it became so hot it busted the plastic resorvoir at the top of the radiator. Mechanic said the car run hot and busted the radiator because it had the wrong plugs and plug wires on it.
Not a mechanic myself but I am not sure how that relates. The car was running fine and without any missing etc.
Is it possible for the car to have the wrong plugs/wires and run hot enough to bust the radiator.
The plugs/wires were bought at Autozone and looked just like the ones that came off of the car.

Your mechanic is an idiot.

If it overheated, and the Radiator busted, replace the following:
1: Radiator
2: Thermostate
3: Radiator cap(s)

Check:
1: Water Pump
2: That fan(s) come on

get a new mechanic. please tell me you didnt pay him to replace the plugs and wires.

i have heard of those plastic caps on the radiators cracking over time then that causes the car to run hot.
