93 camry runs slow when cold

my camry has always run slow when its not warmed up, it seems like its not getting out of first gear and i can floor the gas but the car will barely go. i never had a problem like this on other cars usaully they start up and run right away, is there a way to fix that or are is the car supposed to do that. i live on a main road so its kinda annoying to try to beat a speeding car by flooring it and having the car only go a few feet at 5mph

not enough info here.

4cyl or 6?

Does the engine rev fairly high when you press the accelerator without the car moving much? ie. is the transmission slipping, or is the engine not developing power and RPMs?

How is it when warmed up? Any remaining symptoms?

its a 93 camry le v6

it feels like its going to die, when i start it up in the morning it idles weird, if its not warmed up i can push the accelerator and the car barely revs.

but when the car is warmed up it runs fine i can slam the accerator and gun it, but if its cold it just goes really slow. i read a a thread that said it my be the coolant temp sensor but i have no idea where it is on the car and i just bought one today.

it usaully happens when i let the car sit for 4-5 hours ill press the gas and the car doesn't rev much. after about 30 seconds the car goes back to a normal state and it can go from a stopped position and rev it normally.

check your 4" air intake hose from the air filter to the TB for and cracks/holes in the folds. It sounds like the engine is running too lean at a cold start and this can cause this on the older V6's. Check all of the vacuum/air hoses for any cracks. It could also be your IAC valve, but I have a hunch it is your hose.

well i checked the hoses and didn't have any cracks, and right now the IAC valve seems a bit to expensive.

i still want to try the coolant temp sensor, i found what i think is the coolant temp sensor underneath the alternator but when i took it out and compared it to the one autozone gave me and the threads didn't match up, a lot of coolant came out. so i just want to find out if i got the wrong coolant temp sensor or if i took out the wrong thing.

The computer control system normally reins in the engine power a scosche until it's warmed up for a few minutes, but it sounds like your problem is more severe than that. You might read this thread (link below) to see if tweaking your AFM might help. My Camry had the same problem as yours, and doing this certainly helped it a lot!

That one is for the radiator fan circuit. The ECTS is on the water inlet on the driver side of the engine near the distributor.

It usually has a green colored plastic connector going to it.

ive checked the hoses installed the new coolant temp sensor, cleaned the throttle and iac.

now time to wait for that cold nh air to cool down my car tommorow morning and see the results. cleaning the throttle made a huge difference on the way my car runs, the hi and lo idling went away and more response when i give the car gas

Once your car is at operating temp, (running or idling for 5-10 mins) and it still acts up, then you have a problem.

Other than that cold starts are always going to be rougher on the older motors.

Sorry to be a bit off topic here...

So, there's a sensor that can get replaced that looks after the hydraulic fans on the radiator? I've been interested about this for a while. Same side as the thermostat... or is that like, the same thing?
