If the timing is too far advanced, it will idle higher and use more fuel. Check the bolt on the distributor. If its not near the center of the adjustment channel, loosen the bolt and get it as close to the center as possible. That will get you close to 10 degrees BTDC. Then get a light and fine tune it. Check that your throttle cable is properly adjusted. I had a similar problem when I put the TB back on my Camry. The cable was holding the butterfly open a little because I didn't set it right and my idle was higher than normal.
