Battery related issue

so after leaving the door open for about an hour last night, this morning the battery wouldn't start.

I jumped it for about 2 minutes and it worked. After disconnecting the cables, I tried it again and nothing. No turn over, dim check lights, no headlights, etc.

I know its not a dead battery, is it just I need to drive it longer to charge it?

please help

Check Battery connections to make sure you are getting a good charge on the battery. One hour should not have killed a good battery. May be not getting charged properly. But yes, if it was DEAD 2 minutes running will not normally be enough to get charged.

You're going to have to DRIVE it for much longer than a few minutes to recharge the battery. Naturally if the battery needs a jump and you turn it off right after and try to start it again, it's still going to need a boost.

BTW, you may want to get your battery tested and consider replacing it. My mom left the door slightly ajar on her gen 3.5 (new battery though) all night until the bulb died. It was weird because the bulb was new too. Anyway, no problems, the car started right up. If the battery is in good shape I don't think 1hr of leaving the dome light on should have killed it.

Good luck.

you probably don't need new connectors. Mix a little baking soda in a glass of water and pour it on the connectors. that will neutralize the acid. Then remove and clean them with a terminal cleaning brush or any wire brush. Then reconnect. Drive it a while, go to Advance Auto and have the check the batt and alternator.

Get a battery terminal cleaning brush at any auto parts store for a few dollars and clean both the battery posts and the battery terminal ends. They need to be shinny clean. The brush will have internal and external cleaning brushes. Remove the negative battery cable first and reinstall it last.

I have to agree with what others have posted. 1 hour of the dome light being on should not have killed a properly charged and normally functioning battery. Whne you get the car back running, have the battery and charging system checked out. Many auto parts stores offer this as a free service. Call around to a few auto part stores in your area and ask.

What type of warranty did you get on the Toyota True Start? Take it back or call the dealer where you purchased it and find out. You may only have to pay a pro-rated portion for a new battery.

there is a warranty but it only applies if you bring in the car it was installed on along with the battery.
Im sure the Toyota technicians are gonna try and tell me that it was my intake or aftermarket head unit that caused the battery to die prematurely and its not covered by warranty.

Thanks for the reply back tho, appreciate it

It can take up to 45 minutes of DRIVING to re-charge a fully dead battery.

They can't just say it's your intake or h/u and call it a day. They have to prove that was the cause otherwise they have to replace it under warranty.
