Fog lights problem after HIDs. (Video)

So I installed the HIDs, they work, no problem.
Now the Fogs don't work.
The fogs run on the factory wiring, which require the headlights to be on for the fog lights to be on (but when the high beams are on, the fogs turn off).
The HID kit only uses one of the headlight plugs (currently using the driver side).
So when I plug a light into the passenger side the fogs will come on. (although not anymore i think i screwed up the contacts inside the plug).

Anywho.... looking for ideas on how to fix this.

Sounds like there's a wire switched possibly.

it seems like it... but i don't understand how you can switch a wire with this kit. it would be like trying to put a square peg in a round hole.

True, but wiring is very black and white. To trouble shoot, I'd start from square one. At stock make sure everything still is at it should be, then go from there. Sometimes a small thing overlooked can cause it to work improperly or not work at all.

Since your fogs are running on factory harness and is activated when the headlights are turned on, the HID kit might not trigger a high state. Much like HIDs on newer cars causes DRL or high beam lights to turn on in the dash.

Research into how people bypass the indash indicator on newer vehicles and this might solve your problem.

I might be of some help. Do you have daytime running lights? I have the original Fog light wiring instructions.

It is the purple wire in your fog light switch that will control the switch. You either tap into the daytime running lights or another wire under the steering wheel if you don't have daytime running lights.

You probably have a purple wire attached with a scotchlock connector to a red/silver band wire. This is where your problem most likely lies.

Tie that purple in to either your lowbeams, or possibly the parking lights.
You can tie the purple into the lowbeam real easily by cutting this wire, not using it, and using another wire under the steering wheel that goes to the switch. That wire in the wiring plug under the steering wheel is red/black and it is a thicker gauge wire than the rest.

I don't have running lights.

Thanks for this insight. Do you have a digital copy of the wiring instructions?

Here's a thought, why don't you put a dead bulb in that socket so that it thinks that there is a bulb in there & then zip-tie it to the pipe going to the radiator or the other pipe below it...maybe that might just do the trick, it's worth a shot.

I don't have a digital copy of the OEM instructions. Since you don't have daytime running lights then you should be able to take off your steering wheel and see the splice that controls the switch in there.

Something tells me the problem you have is because there is no bulb in the socket. I helped another member with his foglight wiring, and he asked me to check the color of my parking light wire. That wire at the socket is green with the orange stripe.

If you can locate the unused purple wire in the factory wiring harness that runs to the foglights, (should taped up near your battery) you should in theory be able to use one end of that wire patch into your parking light wire, and take the other end of the taped up wire that is near your switch and attach it to the center post.

Basically cars without daytime running lights had an extra piece of wire, and the kit was designed for daytime running lights. My best guess is because you don't have real bulbs in there to complete the circuit, the fog light switch turns on the highbeams so you have some light.

Next time I get under the hood I'll verify the location of the original unhooked purple wire.

So I did this whole mounting of the ballasts with Velcro. Epic fail. Opened my hood to find them hanging from their wires.
I bought water resistant, industrial strength, velcro. It was the glue that gave way. And I even cleaned the surface real well before mounting.

Best thing I've alwas found is using a good epoxy on it works a hundred times better. Either that or maybe use zipties instead
