4th Generation 1997 5SFE Cooling system

Good day all,

Today I was checking the fluids in my car before my 140 mile trip, when I opened the radiator cap the coolant gushed out very quickly as if the cooling system was still under pressure. I opened it this morning after the car sat for 10 hours so I am sure that the engine is cold.

I drove a total of 150 miles today and my car did not overheat.

About 3 weeks ago I took my car to the mechanic and he did a timing belt job, which includes the water pump. Actually today was the first time I check the coolant after the TB job. As far as I know, my car does not leak or burn any coolant.

I am wondering what could have caused this to happen? Should i expect a problem? I have checked the coolant level many times and it never did this.

Thanks in advance

Last night, after the car sat for 20 hours, I opened the radiator cap and it was not under pressure. It was full of coolant.

This incident is still puzzling me.

What condition was yer radiator cap in? Maybe the seal on it just needed to be cycled. When was the last time you checked it before?
