3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
long story short, a friend of mine bought a corolla that is a ve, the seller had put the ce emblem on and sold it to her, but on the title he put down ve,
so is that illegal???
she didnt realize it until she took it to the dmv and they had told her it was a ve, which should have cost less than an ce...
any thoughts??...is there anything she can do or is she basically screwed???
I would talk to a lawyer, shouldn't cost anything just to ask if you have a leg to stand on. Probably take him to small claims court at the very least. Doesn't cost much to file, if he doesn't show you can probably get a judgment. If he doesn't pay the judgment you can cause all kinds of havoc on his credit rating. The threat alone should get something.
Did the seller ever verbally represent it as the wrong style? Was it advertised incorrectly? If not then you may not have a legal complaint. Personally I would have pointed it out to a buyer and make sure they understood the emblem was incorrect but it is the responisbility of the buyer to ask the right questions.
flyeri......im not sure of the situation because i wasnt there, but as far as i know, the seller put the le emblem on wasnt sure if it was on purpose or not because le does cost more than ce.....and the seller kept saying that its an LE, (thats wat she told me) but she didnt notice until the DMV....
and lighting....the car is CE, but he put LE on, like u said LE does cost more
It's a tough situation. It will likely become ones word against another. Did this seller actually put the emblem on it or did it happen prior to his ownership? Could it actually have come from Toyota with the wrong emblem? It would not be the first time that happened. Is the title wrong and the emblem right? Any way i might be tempted to go to the seller and tell them what has been discovered. Give them the chance to make it right, (maybe adjust price) or take the car back. It could be a totally honest mistake on thier part that they are willing to fix. Good luck.
It shoudent be illegal or anything. My freind recently bought an audi a6 and on the title it says its a 2000 but when the insurance company ran the vin it came up as a 2001.
No big deal really, you can put a lambo emblem on a pinto and no ones gonna give you a ticket for it.
Looks like we're dealing with a gen 8 Corolla here.
Open the driver's door and find the certification label. Should be on the door pillar. Read the model number that would begin with "ZZE110" if it's indeed a 98-00 Corolla. Take that to toyodiy.com/parts and look it up. Or post it here. Either way will quickly and definitely tell you what trim level it should be.
If he misrepresented the trim level to charge a higher price, then small claims it is.

if they took the car for a test drive and couldnt tell if the car was a CE or LE without the little badge on the trunk informing them, why does it matter? if i bought a camry LE with an XLE badge and didnt realize the missing leather seats and other minor trim differences, it would be my fault.
you are assuming the previous owner put the LE badge on the trunk. maybe he bought the car used this way and didnt know. i think this is a case of buyer beware and the buyer should have inspected the car for the proper trim.
and honestly, if you are talking about a difference in price between the trim levels of an 8 year old corolla - theres what, like a $200 difference if that?
