First of all hello everyone. My name is Brandon and I own a 94 Camry XLE 3.0L
Recently driving not far from home I noticed the engine began to get sluggish and soon thereafter it started to slow to a crawl, I barely made it into the driveway before it stalled out completely. I've had it to two mechanics so far. The first one thinks its an electrical problem, but admits that he's terrible with electronics, the 2nd shop claimed it was the catalytic converter and wanted $680 to do a swap out and a

They wouldn't tell me how they reached that conclusion nor were they sure it would solve the problem. It went back to the first shop for a converter swap out but after some discussion with the mechanic i've decided that the converter isn't the problem.
here is what i know so far
1. the car will turn over and run on its own, but as soon as you press on the brake, or if you do anything but feather the gas, it stalls.
2. If you hold the key in the
starter position, it runs fine.
3. the
fuel pump pressure is erratic, sometimes being ok, sometimes being too low
4. there is exhaust coming out, but i'm not sure how much.
After i tow it home i'm going to check the exhaust for pressure and signs of unburned gasoline. Then i was going to test the spark on all six cylinders. Beyond that i'm stumped. Any ideas?
