3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So my check engine light went on and I had a someone who has the diagnostic reader for my car (1994 Camry XLE V6) check what was wrong and it came up the the oxygen heat sensor.
He showed me under the hood which one I would need to replace. If you are standing in front of the car looking at the engine it was in the front on the right side of the engine. He said it the one before the catalytic converter.
I have been looking online for which one to get and don't know if this is the correct one. He said to make sure it is the 4 wire one. Is this the correct one?
Now on another note my ABS light just came on a couple days ago. But it doesn't always stay lit, sometimes it goes off after a few minutes other times if I turn on the car it doesn't light up at all. Is the sensor just flaking out or what?
I don't know what I want to do with this car, I love it, but I think it's time for a new car and don't really want to put any more money into this car. Of course if I bring it in to trade in to a dealer they will see the check engine and abs and give me nothing for it, so maybe just sell for parts or fix it and sell to a friend for cheap...
Thanks for any help.

For the check engine light, did you try simply pulling out the battery? That might make the check engine light go off for some amount of time. That looks like the correct one, down right to the part number. I remember ordering 2 of 'em with that exact part number a couple of months ago. Also, keep in mind, there are 2 of these sensors on your car. It may not be the one you see in front of you when you open the hood, it may be the one that is stuck between the engine and firewall.
Also, your car is low mileage (relatively speaking)! If this is the only issue with it, I would keep the car. An O2 sensor is a cheap problem. If you don't want it, drop by my area sometime, you are only 3 hours away!

I need to know for sure though that is the correct part before I order it. Like I said the mechanic who looked at it showed it to me and it was in the front of the engine (where the latch to open the hood is).
Yeah it does have relativity low milage, but it does have a couple little rust spots and it seems when one thing goes wrong many more follow, like the ABS light
I just wish it qualified for the CARS Bill. www.cars.gov They say it gets 19 MPG and your car has to get 18mpg or less

Can't hurt to run by rockauto to make sure you have the right part number, but I believe you are on the right track sir! Autozone should have the tool to do this change on your own. They loan out tools for free. Are the rust spots surface rust or has it actually started eating at the sheet metal? Our cars(mine and yours) unfortunately(or fortunately, depending on your perspective) don't qualify for the new clunkers deal. Kinda a shame, since 4500$ would be more than market value for our most gen 3's... Keep us posted on how it works out!!

Just curious, Haynes notes that some have one sensor and some have two, but makes no distinction which one has a dual stage system. A mechanic told me a couple of weeks ago that California Camry's have two and the others have one.

Is it actually the 6 cyl that has two?
Yup, that's exactly it, the 6 cylinder has 2 upstreams and 1 downstream.
