4th Generation Click noise in front brake area only when going in the opposite direction of previous

Click noise in front brake area only when going in the opposite direction of previous direction (ex. drive to reverse / reverse to drive)

If I drive. Stop then drive again there is no click noise.
Seems a piece is shifting a bit with the direction.

Car wasn't driven in 4 months and I am getting the ABS light like this other member has
1998 Camry ABS light

Check to see if the clips that hold the brake pads in the caliper mounting bracket (Toyota calls it a torque plate in their manuals) are there and are holding the pads firmly in place.

the click on direction change is normal. the abs light is not. i suggest disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and going from there. obviously you'll also want to make sure the brake fluid levels in both reservoirs are correct as well.

Sign up to Autozone's free repair guide or check out a Haynes manual. You should be able to pull ABS codes. You jumper two connectors in the DLC and the light starts flashing codes.

As far as noises moving in different directions. That's the pads shifting in the bracket. It's a design problem but may go away for a while if you clean and lube.

They are also known as anti-rattle clips...
