Autozone Radiator Fan

My driver side radiator fan stopped working so I went to Autozone to get the VDO PM3777 radiator fan motor. The mounting holes line up, but the motor won't sit flush in the fan shroud due to the metal band / mounting bracket. I ground the lip down, but it didn't help much. Don't want to force it and crack the plastic shroud.

Has anyone else ran into this issue, or can you suggest a replacement motor?

Just curious, but when does each fan operate. Currently the passenger side fan kicks on when the car gets hot and when i turn on the a/c, but it's the only fan right now. Does the driver side only kick on when the a/c is on? No overheating issues, but the a/c doesn't work well at idle.

This link looks just like the fan motor i have. The band surrounding the motor keeps it from seating in the bracket correctly.

I went back to Autozone and tried a fan for a 95 Camry - Siemens VDO PM3900 and it fits the fan shroud for my 00 Camry. My car was i a wreck before i got it. Maybe they put the wrong shroud in. I'm going to investigate further.
